Foot and mouth disease is a highly contagious virus affecting cloven-hoofed animals. This includes cattle, sheep, goats, deer, pigs, camel, and buffalo. FMD is not considered to be a risk to human health.
While FMD generally doesn’t result in death, it causes significant production losses and can have huge economic consequences for the international animal trade industry.
